I did this piece for an assignment in one of my classes in which we were supposed to do a piece of artwork inspired by the process and concepts of another artist. This is a scene from one of my dreams, influenced by the works of surrealist painter Remedios Varo.

Environment+Painter=notsomuch

Here's a combination of two things in which I need serious practice: environment concepts and Painter. This is a work in progress in the very early stages. Another one for the DEEP contest.

Also, I've done a some more landscape paintings since the last time I posted. I'll photograph and put those up once I'm back in Michigan.

I've been doing some quick digital paintings and working on concept sketches for Conceptart.org's DEEP contest. I've also been doing a lot of oil landscapes of scenes from Michigan for my show with my mom. Mostly I'm doing them to appeal to buyers in the area, but I do enjoy them in a way. My home state is beautiful, after all...whatever else it might be right now.

Finish Line

Things are going incredibly well for me right now as I wrap up the semester. I found a place to live in the fall, and hopefully for the rest of my college career. It's near the school, a house inhabited by both Ringling and New College students and in a beautiful little area near an unused rail road. It has an artistic hippie sort of ambiance, and the room I'll have is large, with lavender walls, hard wood floors, and its own bathroom. I'm in love with it. I am kind of stressed out about arranging for the payment of the deposit, but I'm hoping to get it taken care of once I clear up some confusion with the landlords. Other than that I just need to fully move out of my dorm, take an easy History of Illustration Exam, and arrange for transportation to the airport.

This is an illustration I did for class closer to the beginning of this semester. I
decided to post it in spite of its obvious flaw, the enormous hands of death. Their size was the result of a failed attempt at exaggerated perspective, which probably could have been fixed simply by shortening the arm and changing the angle of the sleeve opening.

Graphic Design

This is a study for the last illustration I'll be doing this semester for Ill 1, a book cover for Frank Herbert's children of dune. I'm going to do the final in acrylic on board and experiment with matte medium to create interesting textures in the background.
There's only two weeks left in the semester, and it's gone by insanely fast. It'll be nice to be back in Michigan for a while, painting in the basement and going antiquing with my mom and having beach bonfires with Kris and everyone...but I will miss my boyfriend like crazy. My plans for the summer involve filling at least one entire sketchbook, painting a shit-ton of Michigan landscapes to sell at my mom's and my artshow and in the gallery, possibly setting up a portrait painting/drawing booth downtown Frankfort or TC, and NOT waitressing AT ALL. Unless it's at the club again, I enjoyed it well enough last time, but it had its share of downsides.
lately I've been majorly inspired by the painter Malcolm Liepke, and some of his influence is showing through in my digital work. When I get out of school and have the time, I think I'll start playing around with painting figures and self portraits in oils, and developing my handling and style in that medium a bit more. Also, I just downloaded Painter X from my school website, so far I love it. This is the first and only painting I've done in Painter X so far, just a simple portrait of Robbie.
